NISD to prepare 2500 meals Monday
Because Nocona I.S.D. qualifies for the federally funded Summer Food Program, the district is offering free breakfasts and lunches to all of its students through May 29, announced Supt. Dr. David Waters on Monday.
While Bowie and Montague ISDs started their breakfast and lunch program on Monday of this week, Dr. Waters said NISD needed to poll all of its parents to determine how many meals to prepare since they will be providing a week’s worth of food during each distribution period.
The Corona Virus School Dismissal Program allows the district to distribute 5 breakfasts and 5 munches to every student. Meals will be distributed each Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – either by being picked up at one of the two school cafeterias, or the district will deliver the meals.
Reports are the initial count was meals for 250 students, meaning the district will have to utilize both cafeterias — elementary and middle school — to prepare 2500 meals.
