Storm spotter training offered

The Red River Valley Tourism Association met on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the Tales N’ Trails Museum.

RRVTA is made up of 52 members from both sides of the Red River as far west as Childress, and Duncan, Okla., and Broken Bow, Okla., and New Boston to the east.  The goal of RRVTA is promotion of tourism along the famous Red River Valley.

Members from Seymour, Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Bowie, Saint Jo, Muenster, Paris, Texas, Chickasaw Country Marketing Association and 95.9 The Ranch, as well as representatives from Senator Pat Fallon and State Representative Drew Springer’s office were in attendance.

Local business members from Larry Lemon’s Art Gallery, Nocona Beer and Brewery and Nokona Ballgloves also joined the meeting.

Nocona Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nell Ann McBroom also serves as the current President of the RRVTA and led the meeting. Mrs. McBroom discussed the groups’ initiatives to promote tourism in the various communities.

RRTVA’s website, www.redrivervalley.info showcases festivals, businesses, events and ongoing promotions throughout the North Texas, Southern Oklahoma region.  RRTVA is also on Facebook. In addition, 25,000 brochures highlighting the region are distributed in visitor centers, communities, state fairs and member businesses.

Each community gave a brief summary of events held annually in their communities. The next meeting of the RRTVA will be held in Bowie in April.
