Gobbling good turkey on tap
The turkeys, 60 or more, are about to go into the ovens. The cornmeal, bread and other fixings for stuffing have been gathered.
Local cooks are preparing pies and cakes all to be part of the annual, free Thanksgiving Dinner that will be served Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Veranda Inn Event Center.
Several hundred individuals will benefit from the efforts from scores of volunteers as Christ Community Church will once again be coordinating a free Thanksgiving Day meal this year.
This is the sixteenth year the community has come together to provide this free meal for the hungry, the lonely or those that just didn’t want to cook.
It has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for many in the Nocona community.
For some it is a tradition to meet friends, new and old, and eat on site.
For some it is a tradition to help prepare a portion of the food for several hundred people.
And for yet others it is a tradition to deliver meals to shut-ins, people who have unexpected holiday guest and others.
The free meal will be served on Thursday, Nov. 28 – Thanksgiving Day – from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at The Veranda Event Center, 1523 E. U.S. Highway 82 in Nocona.
For many of the volunteers, the work begins the day before cooking turkeys which must be deboned, fixing gallons and gallons of dressing, and then Thanksgiving morning it is time to fix all the side dishes, cut pies and cakes and prepare several hundred take-out orders.
If you are unable to attend, call 940-531-1885, to arrange delivery in the Nocona area.
And if you want to volunteer, just show up and a job will be found for you.
If you need meals delivered, call 940-531-1885.
