Raymond Lee Murphey passed away suddenly on Dec. 25, 2019, at the Nocona Hospital ER. Raymond was born Sept. 15, 1949, to Billie Ray Murphey and Juanita Faye Howerton Murphey in Nocona.
He is survived by his mother and son Cory Don Murphey both of Gainesville; grandchildren Haley and Hunter Murphey of Forney and Riley and Jaxson Murphey of Gainesville.

Also surviving are stepmom Helen Murphey of Nocona, sister Vicki Jones and husband Gary of Gainesville, brother Alan Murphey and wife Linda of Sanger, sister Christie McGuffin and husband Jim of Gene Autry, Okla., sister Gail Swetnam of Imperial; stepbrother Greg Womack of West Columbia; stepsister Karen Hutchings and husband Donnie of Nocona, stepsister Kathy Harden and husband Randy of Gainesville,;uncle Jerry Murphey and wife Terry of Nocona, and uncle John Murphey and wife Fern of Nocona.
Proceeding his death are his son Chad William Murphey, sister Kelley Dean Murphey and father Billie Raye Murphey.
Raymond was a caring man who never met a stranger. He was always making people laugh and feeling a little happier after his time with them. Raymond was a good listener which led him to work a suicide hotline for years. He loved the outdoors including camping, fishing, hunting, boating and cooking on his grill. The more the merrier. Raymond was always at family gatherings and class reunions. He left a good impression wherever he went. He loved working outside in his yard or restoring old things to perfection. Raymond was an artist especially with his Dremel art and stained wood.
He served his country in the US Navy from 1968 to 1971. He was a proud veteran showing respect and gratitude to all that served.
Memorial service and a time of remembering Raymond Lee Murphey will be Friday Jan. 10, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Scott Morris Funeral Home Chapel.
