Hearing set on county tax increase

MONTAGUE – The Montague County Commissioner’s Court will hold the first of two public hearings to seek comment about a proposed increase in the county’s ad valorem (property) tax rate at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22.

The commissioners are proposing to adopt at tax rate of 55-cents per $100 in taxable value, which is the same tax rate applied in 2018 but is more than the effective tax rate and thus triggers the statutory requirement for public hearings.
