County goes into rent-a-cell business
MONTAGUE – In the coming days and weeks Montague County may begin housing federal prisoners.
Monday the commissioner’s court approved a contract between the Montague County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Corrections, LLC, to be a designated facility for the housing of USC inmates
Sheriff Marshal Thomas said USC would pay the county $55 per day per prisoner housed.
With an average daily jail population of between 50 and 55 inmates, and a bed capacity of 106 “so we have room for a few more and we can make some money for the county,” the sheriff explained.
