TxDOT acquiring property to widen US Hwy. 82

A sutrvey team for TxDOT walks across part of the Three Bars Ranch which is targeted for purchase to widen U.S. Hwy. 82.

The Texas Department of Transportation is actively working to secure rights-of-way for the widening of U.S. Hwy. 82 from Nocona to just east of Ringgold prior to opening bids early next year for the first of four phases in widening the roadway between Nocona and Henrietta.

First proposed in 1972, the widening of the U.S. highway to a four-lane, divided highway had been on hold for more than 40 years.

But last summer public hearings were held in Nocona and Henrietta to discuss revised plans for the project with the first phase widening from Nocona to Ringgold, scheduled for June 2021.

“We’ve got our appraisers and surveyors out there,” said project engineer Shaun Barnes, P.E.

“They’re trying to get property acquired. We’re also working with the utility companies and trying to get utilities relocated,” he said.
