Tribe takes back-to-back to advance

Landry McCasland dribbles past the Henrietta press.

CHICO – Despite some second half foul troubles, the Nocona sealed their berth in the state playoffs Friday night by connecting on just enough free throws in the fourth quarter to beat the Henrietta Bearcats for the second time in four days.

Nocona pounded the ‘Cats on Tuesday, forcing a two-way tie for fourth place in District 9-3A with a 50-34 thrashing.

Henrietta got what they wanted when the play-in game was scheduled in direct conflict with the Lady Indians’ second round play-off game in Granbury effectively splitting Nocona’s fanbase in half.

But it did not matter as Nocona worked its way into the lead thanks to three-point shots by seniors Carter Horn and Blake Gauna.
